|The Boy Scouts||Give a huge shoutout to Boy Scout Troop 85!
This Boy Scout Troop has been serving the youth and community of Herrin since 1942. They are one of the oldest, continuously chartered units in Southern Illinois. The troop helped in the war effort in WWII & continues to serve with food & toy drives, and countless Eagle service projects throughout the city. Troop 85 continues to build character in the youth they serve by living by the scout oath & law. Many of our community leaders are Troop 85 alums.
Troop 85 assists the Herrin Community in many ways. They are the caretakers of the flags that are posted downtown for Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, & Veteran’s Day. They also post flags at San Carlos Cemetery for Memorial Day. They help with the Scouting for Food Drive every November. Since they are a catholic chartered unit, they also participate in Priesthood & Scout Sundays, annually. Troop 85 is honored to participate in the Herrin Elks Annual Veteran’s Day Dinner to honor the veterans.
As the oldest troop in Herrin, they have a long history of helping the community and training future leaders. For almost 80 years, they have answered the community’s call for service to others. They are honored to have been a part of the fabric of Herrin for generations and continue to be an active resource to serve the community and create future civic-minded citizens.
